A gelling fibre that holds its shape
until the end

In the fast-moving world of health care, time means everything. And with patients requiring constant treatment, it’s vital to think ahead. Acelity’s unique gelling fibre dressing, BIOSORB™ Dressing, is designed to create an optimal environment for wound healing. With increased absorbency, you may find it offers longer wear time.

Performance; it's proven to offer greater absorbency than other leading gelling fibre or hydrofibre dressings in vitro. The high vertical absorption of exudate into the Fibre dressing protects the wound edge¹, thus supporting the healing process.

Specific indications, contraindications, warnings, precautions and safety information exist for KCI products and therapies. Healthcare providers should review the product User Manual, Safety Information and/or Instructions for Use prior to application.

Overview

Strength

Even when the dressing is moist, as a gelled fibre, its structure remains intact. The high vertical absorption of exudate into the fibre dressing protects the wound edge1, thus supporting the healing process.

Gentle

BIOSORB™ Dressing’s unique construction is designed for intact removal and to make dressing changes less painful.1

Cost Effective

Competitively priced compared to other gelling fibre dressings to help effectively manage exudating wounds, while also staying on top of your wound care budget.

How it Works

  • ABOUT

BIOSORB™ Gelling Fibre Dressing is a soft, conformable non-woven dressing

Made from sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and strengthening cellulose Fibre(s). When BIOSORB™ Dressing comes into contact with wound exudate, the absorbent dressing forms a gel which helps to create a moist wound environment. This environment is conducive to autolytic debridement and supporting the healing process. Through the gel formation, any wound debris that is retained inside the fibre dressing, may be removed when the dressing is changed.

Indications & Applications

  • INDICATIONS
  • APPLICATIONS
Specific indications, contraindications, warnings, precautions and safety information exist for KCI products and therapies. Healthcare providers should review the product User Manual, Safety Information and/or Instructions for Use prior to application.

BIOSORB™ Gelling Fibre Dressing is intended for use in the management of moderate to heavily exuding acute or chronic wounds including:

  • Lower leg ulcers, pressure ulcers (Stage II to IV) and diabetic ulcers.
  • Surgical wounds (e.g. post-operative, wounds left to heal by secondary intent and donor sites).
  • Partial thickness burns.
  • Traumatic wounds (e.g. abrasions and lacerations).
  • Oncology wounds.

BIOSORB™ Gelling Fibre Dressing has a supportive effect in that it protects the wound edge and surrounding skin from maceration1.

The product can also be used under compression.

When dry, BIOSORB™ Gelling Fibre Dressing can easily be cut with sterile scissors.

Directions for use
Site Preparation
Clean the wound carefully. The skin surrounding the wound should be clean and dry.

Dressing Application
1. The size of the dressing should be selected and cut as necessary to overlap the wound edges by approximately 1cm. Keep the product away from the wound while cutting it to size.
2. Place the dressing on the moist wound, overlapping the wound edges by approximately 1cm. If there is a low amount of exudate present, moisten the dressing with sterile physiological saline solution (0.9%).
3. For deep wounds, use the ribbon variant. Pack wounds lightly, leaving approximately 2.5cm overlapping the wound edges to facilitate removal.
4. Apply a suitable secondary dressing to keep the product in place.

Dressing Change and Removal
The dressing should be changed when medically indicated (e.g. when the dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or when good wound care practice dictates a change is needed). The interval between changes should be no more than 7 days. Should the dressing adhere to wounds with lower exudate levels, moisten it with sterile physiological saline solution (0.9%) before changing the dressing so that the healing process is not disturbed. Any gel residue on the wound should be removed when cleansing the wound. Deep wounds in particular should be well irrigated. Dispose in accordance with local guidance.  Reapplication or continual use should not exceed 30 days unless under specific medical supervision.
